Retrofits and Upgrades to Automation Systems

A client in the food processing industry came to us for upgrades and retrofits to their existing bakery and packaging lines. Having old, outdated equipment causes downtimes and is costly to maintain and repair. The upgrade to the dough cutting machines involved converting European drives to Allen Bradley PowerFlex drives and converting the old dough stand servo systems to an updated system. We also retrofit the old shrink-wrap packaging lines by replacing the old servo drives with the latest version of Kinetix drives that run on Controllogix hardware and software.

By upgrading and retrofitting this equipment, the maintenance staff and electricians were able to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the new equipment more efficiently. We also worked with the plant managers and employees to understand the monitoring systems.

Benefits of Upgrades/Retrofits	Out dated equipment is harder to troubleshoot for the plant electricians. You have to maintain older computers just to communicate to older systems. This alone causes a lot of downtime and a long time to recover from faults. Also, the older equipment is obsolete and very costly to send out for repair and maintain. We are able to replace an old system with the latest hardware and software for the cost of repairing an old system. By upgrading to newer systems, the electricians can troubleshoot more efficiently and parts are easier to find and maintain. Reduced maintenance cost and less production downtime.
